2022 Summer Toy Drive
Luscious Cherry Shop is pleased to announce our sponsorship of the 2022 Summer Toy Drive for non-profit organization Angry Tias & Abuelas in McAllen, Texas. Angry Tias & Abuelas is a women-led, humanitarian group of volunteers who cross the US-Mexico border to aid homeless children & families who are seeking asylum and stuck on the streets in Reynosa, Mexico. There are approximately 2,000 adults & 400 children living in shelters, churches, and on the streets - some with tents and some without tents. The kids, of all ages, are exposed to severe weather elements, little medical attention, and no access to basic daily hygiene.
The migrants come from countries like Guatemala, Haiti, El Salvador, and Honduras. Refugees cross international borders seeking safety from violent governments, corrupted police, war zones, food rationing, drug cartels, rapists, murders, and human trafficking but are often forced back to the country they tried to flee from. Some asylum-seekers, regardless of nationality, are sent to await asylum in Mexico and end up homeless & jobless.
The purpose of this Toy Drive is to provide toys & games to the children and give them a sense of a normal childhood and to help take their minds off the dangerous situations their family is in. Although a toy, board game, coloring book, or stuffed animal may seem like a tiny drop in the bucket, it means the world to a child who is stuck in a stressful environment. Any new or gently-used toys will go directly to these children in need and is greatly appreciated.
The 2022 Summer Toy Drive will take start from June 16, 2022-July 16, 2022.
